The Baby Camel

A mother and a baby camel were lazing around, and suddenly the baby camel asked: “Mother, may I ask you some questions?”

Mother: “Sure! Why son, is there something bothering you?”

“Tell me Mom, why do camels have humps?” Mother: “Well son, we are desert animals, we need the humps to store water and we are known for our ability to survive for days without water.”

Baby: “Okay, then why are our legs long and our feet so big and flat?” “Son, we are made this way so that we can survive in the harsh climate of the desert. Our long legs mean that we can easily cover the long distances we must travel in our search for food and water. They also keep our bodies away from the burning heat of the sand. We have big flat feet so that we do not sink into the soft desert sand. You know with these legs we can move around the, desert better than anyone does!” Said the mother proudly.

Baby: “Okay, then why are our eyelashes long? Sometimes it bothers my sight.” “My son, those long thick eyelashes are your protective cover. They help to protect your eyes from the, desert sand and wind and from the harsh glare of the sun.” Said mother camel with eyes brimming with pride.

Baby: “I see. So our hump is to store water when we are in the desert, our long legs are for walking through the desert, our big feet are to stop us from sinking into the soft desert sand and, these eye lashes protects my eyes from the desert sand, sun and wind.” “That’s right my son.” “Then tell me Mom. Just what are we doing here in the Zoo?”
