So often I hear people say "I want a
better life" I also often hear people say that they "deserve" a better life.
Well the questions are, "What do you mean by a better life?" "Do you really
deserve a better life?" and "What are you prepared to do to get a better
life?"
Have you ever taken the time to actually
describe what a better life really is. A "better" life is so vague. To a
homeless person it might be knowing that they have a bed to sleep in every
night. What does a better life mean to you. Be specific with what you want.
For many people this is difficult. We have
been so conditioned to accept 2nd place in life that we cannot easily
imagine having what we want. However there is an easy way to do this. Make a
list of all the things you don't like about your life right now then take
that list and rewrite it describing what you would prefer to have instead of
what you have now.
The two key elements to change are:
1. the acceptance of things the way they
are. This gives you a starting point; and
2. a clear description of the way you
would like things to be. This gives you an aiming point.
For example:
"I am unfit, flabby, and out of shape".
Change this to "I am slim fit and healthy. My muscles are well toned and I
am in the best shape I can be."
A simple philosophy is this. Write it the
way it is then write it the way you want it. Accept it the way it is then
make it the way you want it.
Now the next question is "Do you really
deserve a better life?" What do you think is stopping you from having a
better life? Are you doing all the things that you ought to do but life is
deliberately conspiring to stop you from getting what you want? Or is it
perhaps that you are creating the situation that you have. What are you
doing to create your current situation? I am sure that you did not get to be
unfit, flabby and out of shape by exercising regularly and eating sensibly.
You will not get a better life until you
know what a better life means to you and you stop doing the things
that are making your life the way it is now and you start to do the
things that will make your life the way that you want it.
So this leads to the last question. "What
are you prepared to do to get a better life?" The process of change is
simple. Identify the behaviour that you no longer wish to display and stop
doing it. Choose the behaviour that you wish to display and start doing it.
You cannot become who you want to be while you continue to be who you are.
You cannot get what you want to get while you continue to do what you do
now.
To be slim fit and healthy, muscles well
toned and in the best shape you can be, you will have to change your
lifestyle. You will need to eat less and exercise more. You will need to be
aware of what you eat and cut down on the "fat" foods and step up on the
"slim" foods. Are you prepared to do this?
To get a better life you must be better so
commit to being better. Be a better parent, a better spouse, a better lover,
a better friend, a better son, a better daughter, a better employee, a
better employer. To have better health you must take better care of you. So
be a better you and then you will have a better life.
To live your best life be true to the YOU, that you want to be.
Live with passion. Change your life from making a living to making a difference.
Live up to the reputation that you want to have.
