If being dead was
merely a state of "not living" of giving up on life, then there are many
people walking around who really should be buried. People who merely exist
from day to day adrift on the sea of life like a boat without a rudder,
buffeted by circumstance, controlled by situation.
In this life you are
either "growing up" or you are "going down" there is no middle ground. All
to often we tend to lose faith in the future and our ability to grow beyond
our current situation. The risk here is that instead of working to create
the future that we want, we resign ourselves to accept whatever comes.
The key difference
between "growing ups" and "given ups" is the way that they talk and act.
A "growing up" has a
clear vision of the future and a well defined purpose for living. A "given
up" will take whatever comes "I mean what's the use it's beyond my control"
and merely exists from day to day with no sense of purpose other than to
make it through to the weekend.
A "growing up" says, I
am able, I will try, I can do it, I want to do it, it may be difficult but
it is possible. A "given up" says, at my age it's too late, I can't manage,
I can't be bothered, I must do it but I really don't want to, it may be
possible but it is too difficult.
"Growing ups" know
what they want and strive to get it. "Given ups" know what they don't want,
and complain about having it.
A "growing up"
identifies the resources that he/she has and then uses them to maximum
effect. A "given up" focuses on opportunities lost, I should've, if only,
and fails to see opportunities present.
A "growing up" is led
by imagination. A "given up" is controlled by memory.
"Growing ups" realise
that they cannot change the past, but that they can affect the future.
"Given ups" complain about the past and resign themselves to the future.
"Growing ups" use
their intelligence to identify their usefulness. "Given ups" use their
intelligence to justify their uselessness.
The purpose of life is
to live it, to become all that you are capable of becoming, to constantly
grow and develop. The future is given to us as an endless set of
possibilities, it is in our power to determine the future that we want and
then to work to achieve that future. Choose to be a "growing up". Choose to
make the most of your life. But this question you must face "Are you a
'growing up' or are you a 'given up'?"
Affirmation
I am a "growing up"
constantly striving to improve myself.
I realise that what ever I want "if
it is to be it is up to me".
To live your best life be true to the YOU, that you want to be.
Live with passion. Change your life from making a living to making a difference.
Live up to the reputation that you want to have.
