Never bring your children back to earth, rather give them wings and help them fly

Your children have opportunities today that did not exist when you were their age. Yes, there were opportunities when you were their age but they were different opportunities. We live in a world of constant change. We take for granted things that our grandparents never even dreamed of. The one thing that has not changed, however is that there are endless opportunities available if only you would recognise them and have the courage to break away from convention.

Parents all over the world have the same basic concerns. Will my children be alright? Will they make it out there? And in an effort to protect them, to ensure their safety all to often we rob them of their dreams. How often have you heard, or have you said, "that’s not a real job" "you'll never get rich doing that" "why don't you get serious?" "face reality" Let me ask you is your concern really for your child's wellbeing or are you maybe just a little embarrassed to have to tell people what your child does?

How do you determine whether it is a "real" job or not. So many people have traded their passion for a pay cheque. They then "endure" the job looking forward to weekends, holidays and ultimately retirement. Life is too precious to waste it like that. Remember that you are basing your judgement on your experience, do you have the right to impose your ideas on your child. Too many people have lived and are living their lives trying to conform to someone else's idea of what their lives should be.

Do you realise that very few people have ever become rich by doing something that they do not like to do. Most people who have become wealthy have done so because they are passionate about what they do. Many of them never even started off with the intention of becoming wealthy, that was a by product of their passion. Most people are good at what they do, but is that what you want to do? Does the thought of going to work fill you with excitement?

"Get serious" The only thing that you should be serious about is to experience as much of this life as you can, to live to the full extent of your capability, to constantly strive to grow and become all you are capable of becoming. Life is too important not to be enjoyed. The great tragedy is not that life is so short but that we take so long to start living it.

"Face reality" Whose reality? What you call reality is merely your interpretation of your circumstances. Each person will interpret the situation differently. What was reality for your parents is not your reality. What would your life be like if you had done exactly what your parents had done? Your sense of reality is, all too often, based on your knowledge, well knowledge is limiting because it comprises what has been. Imagine if every generation had merely complied with existing knowledge, none of the things that you use every day would exist because there was a time that they didn't. Someone had to change "reality"

Your children are not your possessions, they are your responsibility, and your responsibility is to encourage, nurture and support them. Teach them responsibility by being responsible. Teach them honour and honesty by being honourable and honest. Teach them respect by being respectable and treating them with respect. Give them a sense of their self worth and the unlimited potential that lies within them. But above all ignite their imagination with thoughts of endless opportunity because therein lies all that may be and all that will be. "Never bring your children back to earth, rather give them wings and help them fly"
