Just for Today - I will respect my environment

I like to walk as part of my exercise program so just about every morning I go for a walk through the town where I live.

Now early mornings are a special time. Many people are still in bed and the town is quiet and with the sound of the birds I can almost imagine that I am in the country.

I say almost, because there are constant reminders of human inhabitation, and these reminders are unfortunately a very poor reflection on the character of the people in my town.

I am talking about litter. It is such a shame that people do not have the decency to keep their litter to themselves and to dispose of it in a responsible way.

It seems as if they have no respect for their environment at all and it certainly feels as if they have no respect for the other citizens of the town.

These same people, who have no hesitation to drop litter in the streets of their town, often go to great lengths to keep their yards tidy. Don’t dare drop anything there. They are fanatical about their cars and would not dream of having packets or bottles messing up the pristine interior of their pride and joy so out the window they go.

Litter the streets, that’s someone else’s problem, but don’t you dare litter my personal space. How inconsiderate. How short sighted. How disrespectful.

Now I know that you would never litter, but I bet that you know some people that do, so please do this world a favour and pass this message on to them.

But please just for today respect our environment and do what you can do to turn our word back into the Garden of Eden that it is supposed to be.
