It is so easy to claim virtues for ourselves, to impress people with our
talk. How many people do you know who are really impressive talkers yet when
it comes to action then their behaviour does not match the advert.
Are you prepared to commit to your stated virtues and principles. Would you
be prepared to die for them. And to die for your principles does not always
mean physical death. The emotional trauma of rejection by our peers is a
more unbearable pain than death. How often have you been in a situation
where you know that what you are doing is wrong, yet in order to be one of
the group, so that you are not labelled a "sissy", you compromise your
principles and do what you know to be wrong.
How do you feel about yourself? What happens to your self image? You feel
like a worm, right. But you don't like to feel that way about yourself so
what do you do. All too often what then happens is that you look for excuses
to justify your behaviour so that you don't feel bad about what you have
done.
The problem with lying to yourself is that firstly it can make you feel
worse and secondly if you lie to yourself for long enough and convincingly
enough you will believe that your actions are justified.
Listen to what you say about yourself, to what you say you believe, to the
virtues you claim to have, then evaluate your actions, compare them to the
way you talk. Actions speak louder than words. You may impress people with
your words but they will judge you by your actions. Your life speaks, are
you proud of the story that it tells. Does your life make a lie of your
stated beliefs, or does it support your beliefs?
In order to rid yourself of a lot of unnecessary stress match your actions
to your beliefs, walk your talk, commit to live by the principles values and
virtues that you claim. Constantly evaluate your actions and results, be
aware of this question "Does your life make a lie of your stated
beliefs."
To live your best life be true to the YOU, that you want to be.
Live with passion. Change your life from making a living to making a difference.
Live up to the reputation that you want to have.
