You are poor when you can't buy what you need.

You feel poor when you can't buy what you want.

One of the biggest problems that we face is that we have decided that we NEED what we want and man do we want a lot. I watched a program about an ex actor, Ben Dekker, who now lives an extremely simple, but in his words very fulfilling, life in a shack on the beach.

Most people would say that he was extremely poverty stricken as he has none of the amenities that we have come to take for granted like running water and lights. No stove. No fridge. He says that he always has enough and he gave some advice that I believe is priceless "The best place to store your surplus food is in the stomachs of those who have less than you."

We have come to associate wealth with possessions instead of a frame of mind and this has led to an incessant drive to own more, have more and use more. Because of this we spend more and because we spend more we have to earn more and this really messes with our "Peace of Mind"

We have become possessed by our possessions and all too often have to work just to meet the bills. It's time to take back control of your finances. Realise that your status is not determined by what you have but by how you behave. Have a look at all the stuff you have and ask yourself how much of it do you really NEED and then adjust your lifestyle so that you are not driven to work because you spent more than you should have on stuff you really didn't need.
