Wealth Principle 4.

Your only real security lies in constantly providing a service that is needed and that others are prepared to pay for.

At a seminar I was asked "does having money in the bank beat inflation?" and my answer was "no not necessarily, but it sure beats having no money in the bank." Now that answer while being slightly flippant, is something that I do recommend. There is a certain sense of security in knowing that you have a reserve fund of cash to access if needed.

However with the fluctuating state of many economies today money in the bank is no longer security and can often be a liability.

As has unfortunately been experienced by many people living in very badly governed countries you can wake up one morning and find that your savings account, that was enough to buy a Mercedes, is now not enough to buy a litre of milk.

The only thing that keeps pace with inflation is the payment for valued service. This is clearly demonstrated in countries where inflation tops 1,000%. There are still people delivering a service and getting well rewarded for that service.

So your responsibility to yourself and your future security is to evaluate the value of your service. What is it really worth? Why do people need it? Why should the get it from you? What do you offer that makes you stand out in the marketplace?
