Rain..

The wind blows a whisper of promised rain,

huddled in the bus the people complain,

forgetting that the land is dry and people die.

I look around with a tear in my eye,

ever since I can remember,

Ethiopia is a desert of hungry people.

If it could rain, not flood,

rain to moisten the soil,

so we can take to the fields and plough.

To feed the aids orphans on our continent,

the war torn countries and falling economies,

so we no longer look to the skies for dropping bags.

Forever begging while our trees can bear fruits,

if only it could rain,

but not destroy.

Replenish the earth,

so we could ship out to the world,

make a little money to stop the genocide.

A dream that seems impossible,

while we lie entangled in our richness,

and have umbrellas to shoo away the rain.

I step of the bus and the drops begin to fall,

my face to the skies I wish upon the rainbow

that will surely come, let this rainbow nation

be the healing hand of the land, Africa.

I know mine can,

I know yours can,

I know we can.
