I wonder if you can help at all. I'm supposed to give a speech at my friend's wedding, and I don't know where to start. Do you perhaps have any inspiring thoughts on marriage?

Marriage is such an exciting, wonderful and empowering journey yet it can be painful and depressing and enslaving depending on our attitude.

Marriage is a sacred union of two souls, the creation of one unit by combining two separate units which leads to the ultimate creative act of all, the creation of new life which ensures the continuance of our being.

People often say that you should work at your marriage, I would rather say that you should have fun in your marriage. Constantly affirm to yourself how desirable your partner is. Keep the flames of passion burning. Keep reminding yourself of how you felt when you first fell in love with this person.

Beware the trap of familiarity. It is said that familiarity breeds contempt, this may be true. Familiarity also breeds attempt, ask any woman on a second date, but the greatest disease that is bred by familiarity is complacency, when you start to take your partner for granted, when you no longer make an effort to woo and court them.

Stay in honeymoon mode, in fact you can do better than that, stay in dating mode, continuously strive to impress your partner. Remember a good lover does not need a new partner every night, good lovers treat their partners like new lovers every night.

Children are hereditary, it has been proved that if your parents did not have any children then there is a good chance that you will not have any either.

Children are often a result of marriage, they are also often the cause of marriage. However as parents our responsibility is to nurture our children so that they can grow to become responsible adults who can make a meaningful contribution to our society.

The best gift that parents can give to their children is to love each other and to demonstrate that love.

To truly experience love you must first learn to love yourself for only when you love yourself will you be able to love others. Send yourself a Valentines card every day with this message "You are a very special person and I love and respect you" To me from me.

Open yourself to love, plunge in boldly, it’ll be the best move that you ever made.

Each person in a relationship should strive to ensure that the other person in the relationship looks forward to being with them and is reluctant to let them go."
