Rearrange the numbers on your cell phone so that important contact numbers show first. To do this just put 01 – in front of the first name, 02 – in front of the next and so on. If you do this then in an emergency anyone accessing your address list will be able to contact your family or friends.

Have a set of spare keys cut for your home and car and then leave them with a trusted friend or in a safe but accessible place. It means that you always have access to a set of keys should you misplace yours.

Avoid leaving voice messages like ‘Hi I am on a holiday and will only come back in two weeks’ time’. You never know who is calling and why he is calling. It might be the intruders. - Isabel

When you have bought new appliances avoid leaving the boxes at the gate for days, that might just invite the intruders to break in your house because they know what is inside. Throw the boxes away only when you know they will be collected on that day. - Isabel

When travelling in your car make sure that all valuables are out of sight. - Johan

If you are going away for a while cancel all home deliveries. A full post box is a clear indication that this is a “home alone”. - Johan

Domestically, flash lights offer better option compared to candles in case the lights go off. By this accidental fire outbreaks caused by naked flames in our homes are reduced. - Joe

ATM Safety – Whenever you use the ATM as soon as you have put your card in to the slot press the cancel button. If your card comes out then the machine should be safe to use. - Johan

When stopping behind a vehicle anywhere on the road make sure that you can see at least a meter of ground between your car and the one in front. This gives you enough space to turn out and pass the car if you need to. If you stop to close then you may be stuck. - Johan

Always keep your fuel tank above half. As soon as you reach half put more fuel in. This way you never risk running out of fuel and you always have enough fuel for an emergency trip. - Johan
